WHO NEEDS AN EDITOR?

Editorial services are in constant demand to create content for Theatrical Films, Broadcast Television and News, Commercials, Music Videos, Cable Programming, Corporate Presentations, Electronic Press Kits, Publicity Reels and Internet Sites as well as for Industrial Training, Promotion and Recruitment. In addition, there are also many consumer level needs for editing services, such as videos for weddings, retirements, birthdays, anniversaries and family reunions. This is because, no matter what the scale or scope of a job, it is an editor’s task to bring all of the separate elements involved in an audio-visual presentation together, and then shape them into a final program that most effectively or creatively communicates the original intention of their client. Throughout this process, the editor guides their client seamlessly through the various stages of technology while simultaneously maintaining quality control to ensure that the final program both looks and sounds the best that it possibly can.

WHAT IS AN AVID SYSTEM?

Avid Editing Systems are non-linear, computer based systems which allow you to work with virtually any form of media, whether it’s film, video, audio, photographs, music, sound effects, titles or subtitles, animation, computer graphics, special effects or any other type of digital or analog source. All of these varied forms of media can be gathered together and integrated into a single program, which can be creatively assembled and presented in whatever manner is desired. A wide variety of special effects can be added to a program within the Avid software, including titles, dissolves, fades and color correction. The final edited program can be delivered in a variety of formats and resolutions – whether a client needs compressed clips for immediate posting on the web, a high quality DVD for presentation, a reel of answer-printed film for theatrical presentation, or the highest end uncompressed video quality for broadcast television. Avid Editing Systems are currently used to create 90% of all US Primetime Television Shows, 80% of all Television Commercials and 85% of all Feature Films. These statistics have remained relatively constant for over a decade because Avid continually integrates emerging trends and advances in technology into their software. All Avid Systems are built to be cross compatible, so a project begun in one system can easily be imported into another. Having worked extensively with Avid’s Symphony, Meridian, Media Composer and Xpress DV systems over the past five years, I can personally attest to the ease in which projects can migrate from system to system, allowing for a variety of off-line and on-line solutions to fit any production level or budget.

WHY CHOOSE DIGITAL SHARK TO EDIT YOUR PROJECT?

The Digital Shark Edit Studio is the creation of Alan Bazin, an editor than began his career by working at the Pi Edit Company, a high-end commercial post production facility in NYC's famous flat iron district. During the three years that it took for him to rise from apprentice to editor he worked on countless broadcast commercial campaigns, including multiple spots for American Express, Martha Stewart Everyday, Foxwoods Casinos, Country Time, and Hasbro Toys and a continuing corporate training program for The Boston Consulting Group. His goal became to open his own Avid studio where he could control which projects he'd work on, and also offer a lower cost alternative to producers, filmmakers and artists who couldn't normally afford the rates charged by commercial edit studios. By coming to Digital Shark, clients get the editorial experience, expertise and creativity normally found in only the most expensive suites, but at an affordable price. In addition, Alan's extensive background in Film Production and Film studies, as well as his years of experience performing as a drummer with some of New York's most unusual and well known musical groups (after all, editing has a lot to do with rhythm) help give him an artistic perspective and a level of creativity and insight you won't find anywhere else.
